Summer 2022 - What’s going on in Canary Wharf?

Summer 2022 in Canary Wharf

With summer well and truly here and the temperature sizzling, it means there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in and around Canary Wharf in the next month or two.

Watch Dragon Boat Racing in the Dock

On Thursday July 7th, head on down to the South Dock to watch dragon boats compete for the top prize and the kudos of being kings of the water.

Teams of 17 will take to the water from midday to 6pm in a series of races, and while doing so will raise money for this year’s charity, WaterAid, which provides funds to supply people with clean water, decent toilets and hygiene. As well as a winner’s trophy, prizes are awarded for the top fundraising team as well as the best fancy dressed team. So expect to see plenty of colour.

Based on a Chinese tradition that dates back over 2,000 years, dragon boat racing is becoming one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports, as it’s open to all ages and abilities. It’s fun to watch too.

Location: South Dock, Canary Wharf, Thursday 7 July, midday to 6pm.

Listen to the Best Busking Talent

Every Saturday afternoon until the end of July, wander over to the Crossrail Place Roof Garden, grab a glass of wine, and listen to some of London’s most talented and up and coming musicians for free.

The event is curated by Busk in London which supports musical performers through paid opportunities and music industry education, and provides over 15,000 hours of live music and street performances across the capital each year.

Simply turn up and enjoy the dulcet tones of:

Emma Withers Duo on Saturday July 9th

Atticus Blue on Saturday 16 July

Lea Barrufato on Saturday 23 July

Jide Kuti on Saturday 30 July

Location: Crossrail Place Roof Garden, every Saturday afternoon in July, 1pm to 5pm.

Enjoy Street Food at the Night Market

Urban Food Fest has teamed up with Canary Wharf to bring their ever-popular Shoreditch night market to Montgomery Square, once a month until September.

As with all Urban Food Fest events, expect gourmet global street food as well as a buzzing atmosphere and live music.

Food options include: Belgian waffles; Mauritian sticky sesame chicken; Greek souvlaki wraps; butternut squash and sage arancini; Korean bimbimbap; traditional Italian pizza; falafel wraps; pad Thai and traditional Thai curries all served from vintage trucks.

Take a seat at one of the colourful benches and listen to the relaxing sounds of live bands and performers while you enjoy your  food. Or try your hand at some free late-night mini golf. It’s the perfect after-work summer night out.

Location: Montgomery Square, Canary Wharf, 28 July, 18 August, 22 September, 5pm to 10pm.
